Alberto Culver is committed to ensuring the health and safety of our employees and consumers. The company signed the Personal Care Products Council's Consumer Commitment Code. We are in compliance with the FDA's voluntary product registration program.
To that end, we strive for an injury-free workplace in all of our global operations. We consider employee health and safety in every decision we make and in every activity we perform.
Health and Safety metrics are key indicators of organizational excellence. We track and monitor the following metrics globally:
- Total Incident Rate (IR)
- Total Lost Time Case Rate (LTC) and are equal to or better than industry norms.
We use regular internal and external audits to ensure that our plants and suppliers operate in a manner to ensure employee safety and the ability to produce consistent high quality products.
Product safety is a critical element to ensure products are safe and effective. This is essential to ensure consumers can use our products with confidence. We employ trained and certified toxicologists to review and assess the safety and appropriateness of all ingredients and products before they are sold to consumers.
At the same time, we have been an early supporter of efforts to reduce and ultimately eliminate animal testing. The company is a long-term sponsor of the Center for Alternatives to Animal Testing at Johns Hopkins University. Alberto Culver is a contributor to the global validation effort undertaken at The Institute for In-Vitro Sciences for a non-animal test method to assess dermal irritation. We do not test our products on animals.
We use ingredients that are reviewed and approved by external groups such as FDA, U.S. Cosmetic Ingredient Review Board and/or EU Scientific Committee for Consumer Products. We also use certified toxicologists to review ingredients using structure based activity relationship software to assess the safety of the ingredients for their intended use. All of our fragrances must be certified to be in compliance with current International Fragrance Association standards.
